Taking its cue from the grand cafés of Europe, Gusto is a rather handsome Italian restaurant and café on Bothwell Street. As well as a beautiful Art Deco style island bar, it has eye-catching feature lighting, lovely booths and a terrace dining area which is much sought after on fine days.
Open for morning coffees right through to lavish evening meals, Gusto offers several tempting menus packed with classic and contemporary Italian dishes. The pasta dishes run from a simple spaghetti tossed in a light tomato ragu to opulent plates of lobster and prawn spaghetti. The pizzas featured include a classic Margherita and a more globe-trotting Peking duck pizza flavoured with hoisin, spring onions and coriander. Other options include roast cod wrapped in Prosciutto; the Gusto burger; a selection of steaks and the roast lamb rump with buttered soy beans, asparagus and trofiette pasta. The healthy living menu has many fans. Typical dishes might be the salt baked sea bass or the pan-fried chicken breast served with spiced lentils.
Gusto is on Bothwell Street in Glasgow city centre. There is limited on-street pay parking and the nearest pay car park is on Waterloo Street. Glasgow Central train station is a two minute walk. Local attractions include the shops of Buchanan and Argyle streets plus Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
