The Finnieston Finnieston, Glasgow

Scottish, Seafood

8 reviews

Taking its name from the hip and fashionable area in which it sits, The Finnieston Bar and Restaurant is a safe haven for seafood lovers. Cosy wooden booths, a few tiled walls, storm lamps, rigging and fishing photos all lend an appropriately nautical theme. An open fire keeps it all cosy. If the decor tips a wink to old sea dogs, the cooking - and the cocktail list - are distinctly more modern and urban. An outside seating area is popular when the weather is behaving.

    Well below previous visit

We have visited Red Onion before and enjoyed it, but it seems to have declined. Almost empty on arrival and we were handed the pre-theatre menu along with some well used sheets of A4 paper, which turned out to be the 'a la carte' menu. Not impressed. There was no draught beer which was a disappointment and this was added to by a charge of nearly £7 for a 175ml of white wine. The background music in the restaurant was in competition with the music choice from the kitchen and the restaurant was pretty tatty.

Great environment buy just average food

First of all, the waitress didn't inform us that one of the main dishes was not available when she brought us the menu. we were only advised that the main dish that 2 of our group had chosen was not available when she came to take our orders....not good. The starters were ok but nothing special. On mains, the mussels weren't fresh, very small and over-cooked. However, the ambience was great, comfortable and very quiet....lovely.
