    Excellent dining experience

From start to finish we had a really excellent dining experience. Unwittingly, we had booked at the same time as a gin tasting but were given a phone call shortly after booking to inform us. We decided to go ahead and are so glad we did. The staff were first class - attentive and helpful - despite the large number of gin tasting diners. The food had delicious flavours- large plate of plump mussels and tasty cauliflower soup for starters, hake on a yummy bed of roasted peppers and bavette steak cooked to perfection for mains. We went off the 5pm menu to have a cheese platter of our choice: brie, black crowdie blue murder...yum! And the offer of extra oat cakes. Good wine and a delicious seaside gin complemented the meal. Will definitely be back the next time we come to Edinburgh.

    Favourite Haunt

Never been disappointed with either the food or the service. Changed the cocktail menu but they did offer to make my favourite! The place wasn’t busy for a Friday night so I do hope they stay the course. They deserve success

Modern Scottish cooking by EICC

Located on Morrison Street, opposite the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, ISHKA is a sleek restaurant and cocktail bar. Opened in the late spring of 2017, it is a light, airy space with an eye-catching silvery ceiling. Large windows give good views of the street life while the cocktail staff behind the marble bar add an extra element of theatre. If nearby restaurants tend to aim for a homely feel, ISHKA strives to bring a touch more sophistication to the area’s dining options.

Contemporary cooking with global flavours

ISHKA bills its food as ‘the best in Modern Scottish cuisine with nods to the Mediterranean’. Dishes like the pea and broad bean raviolo or the squid stuffed with fennel, rice and herbs certainly nod to the Mediterranean. Other dishes show influences which have travelled further. The nori-crusted roast plaice with baby corn, seaweed broth and crispy lotus root springs to mind.

Options like the rump of lamb with haggis bon bons sound traditional initially but they often come with a surprise twist such as the addition of zhoug, a chilli paste from the Yemen. The vegetarian dishes are just as carefully considered. Try the broccoli fritters with spelt, char grilled king oyster mushrooms, caramelised shallots and spinach.

Local attractions and transport links

ISHKA is on Morrison Street opposite Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Nearby attractions include the cinemas and theatres of the Lothian Road area. Haymarket train station is a five minute walk, as is the tram line. There is restricted on-street parking and pay parking at the nearby Sheraton.
