The current spring menus are bursting with lovely dishes. From the lunch menu, we like the sound of the feta, walnut and pear salad followed by the haddock in crispy batter with chunky chips. We would finish off with the banoffee pie.
From the evening menu, the smoked ham hock terrine with house chutney is inviting; perhaps with the roasted lamb shank from Perthshire for a main course. The carpaccio of pineapple with mango sorbet and toasted coconut would make for a gorgeous finale to the meal.
The Dining Room at Old Churches House has attracted plenty of enthusiastic reviews. This one from TripAdvisor says it all:
‘Extremely enjoyable evening. Great setting with lovely views out to the Cathedral or to the well-kept gardens to the rear. Nice decoration, very tasteful. Overall, a really pleasant eating environment. Service was efficient and unobtrusive, the young girls were all clearly well trained in their art. Fabulous choice on the dinner menu with added specials. Some interesting and unusual choices and a good variety for vegetarians. The lemon and lime crème brulée was delicious. We all had three courses which were thoroughly enjoyed by all, absolutely delicious. Wine and coffee were also part of the meal, again very good. The bill was reasonable for three. A great meal out with a return visit a definite.’
