Fancy fish & chips

Based on Gibson Street near Kelvinbridge Underground, Catch is a stylish and modern neighbourhood fish & chip shop and restaurant.

The Big Deal is for a sit-in fish supper for two with sides, pot of tea and dessert each.

It is available Sunday to Thursday from noon to 4pm until 28th November 2019. You can buy multiples, with up to four people at a table.

As Catch is around a 12-minute walk from the Grosvenor Cinema, this would be great for a meal before a film.

Satisfying spread

Your fish supper and sides will include a small single haddock fillet with twice-cooked chips.

Sides will be Catch salad, mushy peas, tartar sauce and curry sauce, as well as a pot of tea each.

Your dessert choices will include lemon tart and sticky toffee pudding.

21st century chippy

Exposed brickwork, banquette seating and cool, minimalist decor — oh yes, and a fully stocked bar. Catch is basically reinventing the chippy for the 21st century.

Only recently opened, this is the third branch of Catch after the success of its sister locations in Giffnock and Netherlee.

Everything is cooked to order, with a commitment to light, crispy batter and the freshest fish. Where possible, all produce is sourced from Scottish coastal fisheries with a commitment to best practice and sustainability.

Added treats

This is no ordinary fish & chip shop menu.

Should you fancy adding on an extra or two with your meal, other choices include Cullen skink, seared scallops, mussels marinara, king prawn tempura, salt & chilli squid and organic scotch egg with Dingwall black pudding.

The bar features craft beers from Scotland and beyond, as well as bubbly from Italy and France, and a carefully selected choice of wines.

So while alcoholic drinks aren’t included with this offer, you could be forgiven for ordering a cheeky Prosecco with your meal…

Since opening recently, Catch Fish & Chips — West End has been picking up fans on TripAdvisor. These reviews have been edited for length:

‘A long time coming! After waiting for what seemed like an age for Catch to open on Gibson Street we finally visited this weekend and it was worth the wait. Food was tasty, portion sizes were good and we felt that it was value for money. We liked that the menu covered all of the traditional offerings and that it also had some unexpected items on there; fish tacos, scallops etc….’

‘Fresh and tasty. A very welcome addition to the West End. Posh fish and chips but also tempura, tacos, lobster, scampi, burgers and many more. Comfortable seating upstairs. The staff are on the ball and the wine is competitively priced. The fish is very fresh and the chips are what chips should be. Also good if you’re in a hurry and fancy a takeaway. I’ve already been back.’
