When a restaurant has been around for a very long time, you know that they are giving their customers exactly what they want.
Customers don’t keep coming back year after year unless the food, service and atmosphere all hit the sweet spot.
Step forward Sauchiehall Street’s Rawalpindi Tandoori which launched in 1979, the same year as the Sony Walkman.
The Walkman has gone the way of the dodo but Rawalpindi Tandoori continues to thrive.
Perfect for a pre-gig curry
Located in the heart of Glasgow and close to music venues like the O2 ABC and the King’s Theatre, Rawalpindi Tandoori is perfectly placed for a pre or post-show curry.
The Hydro, SECC and Armadillo are just a short taxi ride away.
A la carte menu
Today’s Big Deal is a fantastic way to experience the legend of the Rawalpindi Tandoori.
Available noon to 10pm, Sunday to Friday, today’s spicy Big Deal is for two people to each enjoy a starter, main course with rice and plain naan from the a la carte menu.
The a la carte offers a cracking selection which will gladden the heart of any bhoona buff.
From lamb samosa to egg pakora and chicken chaat, the Rawalpindi Tandoori has an enticing range of starters.
The wide selection of traditional curries is just as tempting. The Big Deal staff are always keen on a chicken rogan josh but we can see the appeal in a good old mince curry.
Veggies also have it sweet at Rawalpindi with a great choice of dishes like the tarka dal, Bombay aloo and pardesi paneer.
Of course, in a restaurant called Rawalpindi Tandoori, there is also a fantastic selection of lip-smacking dishes from the tandoor oven.
Chicken tikka or tandoori lamb chops? It’s tricky.
Tandoori will be charged a £3 supplement. Seafood dishes will be charged a £5 supplement.
Rawalpindi Tandoori has made lots of friends on its 5pm entry where it has a combined review rating of 4.3/5. This is what a couple of recent diners thought of their experiences at Rawalpindi Tandoori:
‘Pre-theatre curry before seeing Return To The Forbidden Planet. Very good pakoras, chicken and veg. The spiced onions were just right! Not too fiery and a good flavour. Chicken biryani very tasty with moist tender chicken. Other Half had lamb karahi which had a deep intense flavour and melting lamb. Daughter loved her chicken bhoona. Might need to go back to check the full menu’ Rating 4.2/5
‘Total quality in every way. Brilliant experience yet again. Food, personal service and beautiful Cobra…. best in the west by far!!!’ Rating 5/5
