Nonna’s Kitchen might not have an actual Italian granny tending the pans in the kitchen, but, with its tiled décor and warm lighting, it certainly has the feel of a traditional neighbourhood Italian establishment. Kirkintilloch locals keep coming back for cuisine that combines freshly-prepared favourites with some classy specials. The authentic feel is notable on Friday nights with live Italian accordion music.
Nonna’s Kitchen stays loyal to the time-tested pasta sauces and pizza toppings popular with locals while offering plenty of authentic flavours from the old country.
Pasta highlights include dishes such as ravioli al manzo, filled with beef, Parma ham and sage butter. Mains feature old-school creations like Vitello Marsala, a veal escalope in a butter and Marsala sauce with a rocket and Parmesan salad.
Scottish seafood makes an appearance in several dishes, notably the fresh langoustines in home-made langoustine bisque, served with linguine.
To accompany your espresso and digestif, the dessert list leads with Nonna’s tiramisu, although the lemon posset with raspberry coulis provides a lighter alternative.
Nonna’s Kitchen is located on Cowgate, close to the Luggie Water in Kirkintilloch, right beside the national cycle route. The restaurant welcomes cyclists, with a bike rack for guests’ use.
The nearest bus stop, served by routes 72, 178, X85 and X87, is nearby on Alexandra Street. On street parking close to Nonna’s Kitchen is limited. The nearest car park is Barleybank, about five minutes on foot from the restaurant.
