I have been here twice now. The mains are great. There is a good range of veggie and vegan choices. The garlic chilli curry is delish!! The nan breads are also perfect. I only ordered starters the last time to share (fish pakora and chatt bomb) however these are just okay, maybe it was my choices and hopefully next time will be better! I love the way its BYOB (plus £1 corkage a person). Would like to go back soon.

Great food and service. Went for my son's 21st Birthday and really enjoyed it. BYOB was a great idea! Look forward to returning soon.

After the success of its Giffnock branch, Clay Oven — Indian Street Kitchen has opened up a new casual dining spot in Shawlands. Expect a mix of comfortable Indian classics and exciting street dishes, served in a sleek yet rustic setting. The kitchen brigade aim to capture the essence of Indian cuisine, add a contemporary flourish and leave you craving for more. True to the restaurant’s name, many of the dishes are prepared in a traditional tandoori clay oven.
Clay Oven is bring your own bottle, meaning you can enjoy your favourite wine or beer with your meal. The menu is split into various sections, so take your pick from the street stall, house specials, curries, small plates, clay oven dishes, daals and biryanis, as well as veggie and vegan options.
Choices include the crispy masala fish, the butter chicken, the chicken or lamb desi and the clay oven tandoori meat mix. Over in the small plates section, the gunpowder chicken pakora will add some fire to the proceedings, while the gourmet platter for two is a great sampler of what’s on offer.
Veggie dishes include classics like butter paneer and malai kofta deep-fried dumplings, which vegans can savour choices like chana masala and mushroom mutter.
If you would like a true taste of Indian street food, then try the puffed rice Bombay bhel or the chickpea-stuffed chaat bombs.
Clay Oven is on Kilmarnock Road, a five-minute walk from Shawlands train station and 10 minutes from Crossmyloof. The Shed club is just around the corner and Queen’s Park is also close by. There are regular bus links into the city centre and you can find limited free paid parking at Shawlands Arcade.
