    Wow an absolute gem

I booked Mharsanta because I was looking for a restaurant nearby the Trades Hall for after a performance. This little gem was a fabulous find. The food was incredible and the staff were so kind and lovely. We were a table of 7 and we will all be returning VERY soon.

    Great Scottish Food!

Lovely food, friendly staff and very reasonable. Sticky toffee pudding is to die for. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Scottish cuisine in the Merchant City

Mharsanta is a newly launched restaurant & bar on Bell Street in the Merchant City. Named after the Gaelic for ‘merchant’, it serves classic comfort dishes alongside Scottish seafood and signature cocktails. Inside, you will find a smart minimalist space with windows prettily lit up at night by fairy lights. Mharsanta is a great spot for a relaxed lunch or to dine in the evening before heading to a concert or nearby bar.

Classic dishes and cocktails

Much of Mharsanta’s menu has a Scottish comfort food feel to it. Menus can change, but expect choices like the steak, egg and chips or the fish ‘n’ chips made with haddock landed at Peterhead.

There are also mince and tatties, a beef and sausage pie plus a range of dry-aged Scottish steaks. Local produce is also prominent in dishes such as the Ayrshire pork belly and the burger topped with Ayrshire bacon & Mull cheddar.

Seafood options might include Isle of Barra langoustines, Shetland mussels, a Cullen skink pie and hand-dived king scallops. Veggie dishes include a battered halloumi burger and wild mushrooms on toasted soda bread. As well as this you can tuck into a range of sandwiches, such as the slow-cooked pork on a crusty bloomer. A children’s menu is also available.

You can also try out the extensive cocktail menu, including Mharsanta signature drinks like the Buffalo Soldier.

Merchant City transport links and attractions

Mharsanta is on Bell Street, under a fifteen minute walk from both Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations. If you are driving, you can find limited paid parking outside of the restaurant and also at the nearby NCP on Ingram Street. Mharsanta is well placed for various city centre attractions, including the Tron Theatre, Old Fruitmarket, Gallery of Modern Art, Argyle Street and Princes Square.
