The Pipers' Tryst Review

  • Rating The more you eat the more you save (Rating 3.4/5)
The 5pm menu is very limited and unlike some places weve dined there are no extras - no coffee, no welcome glass of wine. My wife asked to upgrade her soup to Cullen skink and although it was only 55p more on the a la carte menu, the choice was 5pm or a la carte (no mixing). As she wanted the steak and it was £13.95 on the a la carte menu and that was the price for two courses on 5pm we stuck with the mini menu. That was their first fail. The soup was a sizeable portion and hot. Main course sirloin was OK - mine was ordered as rare to med but when delivered it seemed more well done. Only after a while did we realise they had given us each others steaks! However, pudding which is priced at an extra £3 is generous, and although cheese is £6.95 it is included in the deal. You can see the strangeness of their pricing! Anyway it was a better experience than when we last visited and the food was good and properly cooked, but they need to recognise that if someone wants to upgrade, there is a supplement opportunity for them to make more money from a willing customer.
