Although the surroundings and service were good the food was poor. The limp sandwiches were skewered together on the bottom tier of a 2tier cake stand. Once released from the skewers the fillings were a disappointment, luckily I had ordered a side of chips! The scones, the nicest part of the tea, came on a separate plate and I had to ask for serving plates as our sandwich plates were covered in salt from the chips. I also had to ask for the tea to be served. The fruit cake was passable and my American guest asked if fudge was usually served with afternoon tea. I did not have the heart to inform her it was meant to be a chocolate brownie. Definitely not an experience that was worth the £45!
