Place is definitely go back to

Lovely meal, promptly served by very attentive staff. Good atmosphere, despite World Cup being on tv with lot of customers watching it we could still enjoy meal and chat.

Modern city centre bar with Victorian heritage

Billed as a ‘pub and scullery’, The Smokin’ Fox is on Waterloo Street, next to Central Station in Glasgow city centre. The premises have a long history as a bar and are currently enjoying a new lease of life after a rebrand at the start of 2017. Floor to ceiling windows, leather and tweed seats, crocheted lighting and a beautiful bar give it a very distinctive, modern retro look. Lunching office workers, sports fans, evening diners and after work drinkers keep The Smokin’ Fox, well, smokin’.

Modern pub menu with local produce

As well as fox bites and sharing platters, The Smokin’ Fox offers a keenly priced lunch menu and a feel good main menu which flies the flag for Scottish produce. Traditional starters might be the ham hough and Mull cheddar croquettes or the Shetland mussels in cider and smoked bacon. Taking their culinary cue from more exotic climes are options like the chicken satay skewers or the salt and pepper squid.

Hearty, honest main courses include the Fraserburgh haddock in Joker IPA batter; shepherd’s pie and a char grilled bacon chop. Pan-roasted sea bass would be a lighter option. Naturally, there is a house burger and a rump steak from Orkney. The brave could finish on a Buckfast and vanilla cheesecake.

City centre transport and attractions

The Smokin’ Fox is on Waterloo Street, next to Central station and a five minute stroll from Queen Street Station. There is lots of city centre pay parking nearby. Hyper local attractions include The Lighthouse design centre; the Gallery of Modern Art and the shops of Buccleuch Street.
