  Very welcoming

  First visit to this bar, although I was aware of its existence. Much bigger than I realised, very warm and cosy. Ashley the bar person was extremely friendly and helpful. I will definetly consider going back again

  A great find

  We were a party of 6. 3 had the boozy brunch and 3 from standard menu. Able to easily accommodate gluten free requirements. Really good service and loved the cocktails and food. We'll be back.

Mediterranean flavours in Merchant City

Brutti Compadres – it means ugly mates – is a laid back and stylish cafe bar tucked away in Virginia court. Built on the site of the original tobacco exchange, it is an innovative space that combines a soft industrial decor with witty pieces of art. If you can imagine a hip Barcelona bar and kitchen with a Glasgow accent then you are in the same ballpark as Brutti Compadres. When the weather is benevolent, the terrace tables underline the continental atmosphere.

Little plates, big flavours

Tapas-style little plates; inventive appealing sandwiches, salads, soups and nibbles vie for attention with crispy pizza and vibrant pasta dishes at Brutti Compadres. The chefs in the open plan kitchen like to change the menu with the seasons. Typical dishes might be a plate of padron peppers, some white asparagus or pizza topped with capers, anchovies and mozzarella. From pulled pork and chorizo sandwiches to fish stew or squid in its own ink, the dishes tend to be simple but big on flavour. Customers are welcome to graze on a plate of Spanish almonds or settle in for a feast of halloumi and chickpea stew, some cheese and bacon croquettes, grilled sardines and affogato dessert.

Brutti compadres is in Virginia court in Glasgow’s Merchant City. Queen Street and Central train stations are a ten minute walk. There is pay parking on Glassford and Ingram Street. Local attractions include the Old Fruitmarket, City Halls and the Gallery of Modern Art.
