The latest addition to Edinburgh’s family of l’escargot restaurants, bar à vin is an authentic French wine bar on Queensferry Street. With walls covered in vintage French drink adverts and old pastis bottle lights hanging from the ceiling, bar à vin is a quirky spot for lunch, an after work glass of wine with nibbles or a leisurely get together with friends over a couple of bottles and a generous platter of charcuterie.
Featuring a thoughtful list of hand-picked wines, bar à vin aims to be Edinburgh’s best wine bar. They have over 40 wines available. They also offer a range of Scottish craft beers, gins and artisan fruit juices. Returning to France, there are ciders and Calvados from Normandy, Armagnacs and Cognacs as well as excellent coffee.
Carefully selected, seasonal cheeses and charcuterie from artisan French and Scottish producers are at the heart of the food menu at bar à vin in the West End. Supplied by the famous French firm of affineurs, Hervé Mons, the cheeses change every week to ensure they are at their seasonal peak. Whether it be pastrami from Highland Wagyu farm in Perthshire or Banon goat cheese, all the products have a genuine sense of heritage and are rooted in the area from which they come.
Bar à vin sits below L’escargot blanc on Queensferry Street in Edinburgh’s West End village. As well as being a two minute walk from the tram line and a fifteen minute walk to both Waverley and Haymarket train stations, bar à vin is handy for the bus routes of Princes Street.
