The brainchild of the broadcaster and comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli, V Deep is a funky craft beer and curry restaurant in Leith. Decorated with bright, eye-popping graffiti and sound tracked with a lovingly curated playlist, V Deep is a refreshing, contemporary take on an Indian restaurant. The beer offer is no afterthought, many of the craft beers are carefully matched to individual dishes.
As well as recipes from his Mum, Hardeep has developed a number of his own inventive dishes for V Deep. Traditional choices might be the butter chicken or the three lentil dhal. More unconventional options include the venison meatball korma; the Punjabi BBQ wings flavoured with whisky, cumin and honey or the bubble and Sikh – a spicy play on bubble and squeak.
At the weekends, the brunch menu also comes into play. A simple option might be the chapatis filled omelette, green chilli and onion. A heartier choice would be Full Indian- pork bhangras, slow roast tomatoes with garam masala, besan toast, West Indian black pudding, Punjabi scrambled eggs, saag, curry cured streaky bacon and masala baked beans. Just the ticket to get your weekend back on track.
V Deep is on Henderson Street in Leith. There is restricted on-street parking. Waverley train station is around a ten minute drive and there are good bus routes between Leith and the city centre. Local attractions include The Shore and the Royal Yacht Britannia.
