  Lovely afternoon in the woods

  I booked this for a girls catch up and was not disappointed.Our table was ready for our arrival (it was quiet, having missed the lunchtime rush) and we were greeted with a friendly member of staff who immediately brought us some drinks. The food was lovely and we can highly recommend the pate, red pepper soup, fish and chips (lovely light crispy batter) and cheesecake. We all had 3 courses, a bottle of prosecco (plus 2 other glasses) and a cocktail jug and the bill came to just over £75. By 4pm the place was very busy and 3 deep at the bar. Lovely afternoon and will certainly be back!

City centre bar with unique style

The Woods Bar and Kitchen is a contemporary bar on Waterloo Street in Glasgow city centre. One wall bears the legend ‘If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise’ and this is borne out by the enjoyably quirky decor of The Woods. Prints of fashionably attired woodland animals decorate the walls and the unorthodox, candlelit beer garden is another talking point. Live music, DJs and sports coverage keep it all lively. The cocktail list is a big draw.

Local produce, cooked to order

With a breakfast menu, kids’ menu and extensive main menu, the food offer at The Woods covers all bases. From stovies to Thai curries, the kitchen takes influences from all over the globe. What unifies the dishes is the use of premium, locally sourced produce which is cooked to order.

Alongside selections of pizza, pasta and burgers, there are salads and flexible small plates and sharing platters. The soup and sandwich combos are always popular at lunch. Desserts range from a light lemon posset to a more substantial apple and raisin cinnamon ginger bread crumble.

City centre transport links

The Woods Bar and Kitchen is on Waterloo Street. Central Station is a two minute walk. There is pay parking at Waterloo Street and Atlantic Square. Local attractions include Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the shops of Buchanan and Argyle Street.
