Casual Thai dining in Silverburn

Pronounced ‘tycoon’, the Thaikhun in Glasgow’s Silverburn Centre is a casual Thai restaurant from the owners of Chaophraya Thai Restaurant group. Decked out with diverse Thai bric-a-brac and featuring open kitchens, Thaikhun is designed to feel like a bustling Bangkok street restaurant.

Authentic Thai street food

The street vendors of Thailand are famous for their quick, affordable and flavour-packed dishes. Thaikhun aims to bring those flavours to Scotland. This might mean a simple starter of crispy salt and pepper squid or a main course comprising a grilled half chicken marinated in a secret sauce and served raw papaya salad, pork scratchings and sticky rice.

Classic Thai soups, salads and stir fries are prominent as are the green, red and massaman curries. The menu also has a regional specialities selection. Taken from the eastern region of Thailand, the pla samun prai is a whole, deep fried bream with a tangy salad of red onions, lime, lemongrass, palm sugar, fish sauce and ginger, topped with peanuts, red chilli and fresh coriander. Silverburn attractions and transport links

Thaikhun is in the Silverburn Centre on Glasgow’s Barrhead Road. As well as many shopping opportunities, the centre has a fourteen screen Cineworld. There is ample parking at the shopping centre and easy access to and from Glasgow city centre via the M77. Nearby attractions in the area include The Burrell Collection and Pollok House and Gardens.

Unlike many other Thai curries, jungle curry contains no coconut milk, as coconuts are not naturally found in the jungles in the northern part of the
