    Last Supper

My Sister and I planned a last lunch at O Sole Mio as we heard it was closing due to demolition of the building. It was quite emotional. I even found myself sharing stories of previous visits over 40 plus years, with some other ladies who lunch there. O Sole Mio has a uniquely friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where you feel very at ease wether you are dining in a group or on your own. This of course is down to the staff and the owner himself who is always ready with a friendly greeting and chat. O Sole Mio is a restaurant which will be sadly missed in our city. Although The Owner did hint at not retiring and asked me to watch the O Sole Mio website (and Facebook page) for news.

Authentic city centre Italian restaurant

Located on Bath Street just a moment away from shopping mecca Buchanan Quarter, O Sole Mio first opened its doors in 1965 and since then has remained a favourite amongst Glasgow’s Italian and pizza fans. Along with a passion for food, the restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere as well as a dedication to using the very best of Italian ingredients to provide guests with authentic cuisine.

Scottish meat & seafood, quality Italian food

O Sole Mio’s claim to fame is that their traditional brick wood-fired pizza oven was the first of its kind in Scotland and gives the their freshly prepared pizzas a delicious smoky flavour.

Some popular menu items at the restaurant includes their cozze alla marinara (Shetland mussels steamed in tomato, chilli & basil sauce); the vitello alla Milanese (pan fried breaded veal escalopes with spaghetti sugo); and the coda di rospo (pan fried monkfish, wrapped in Parma ham & served with saffron risotto).

Accessible from Queen Street train station

O Sole Mio is on Bath Street, a short distance from the Buchanan Galleries and a brief 5 minute walk from Queen Street train station. Buchanan Street Subway station is nearby, as are bus stops and taxi ranks. Glasgow’s Buchanan bus station is also a leisurely 10 minute stroll away, with the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and Pavilion Theatre close by.
