Maison Bleue is a vibrant bistro on Victoria Street in Edinburgh’s Old Town serving French, North African, Asian and traditional Scottish cuisine. The historic blue building has been a local dining fixture since 1998. Inside, you will find an eclectic interior of 15th century archways, victorian stairways and hidden corners, which mirrors the variety of the menu. Maison Bleue was opened by acclaimed restaurateur, Dean Gassab, who has stood true to his passion for North African and colonial cooking, plus flavour and authenticity, for the past twenty years.
Maison Bleue crafts French, North African, Asian and Scottish dishes using traditional cooking skills from each of these regions. Only fresh produce from quality local suppliers is used by the team of highly skilled chefs, many of who are native to the regions in question.
Menus can change regularly but typical starters might include the range of “bouchees” (mouthfuls) which are designed for sharing. These include the Surprise Calamari with the secret spicy recipe, the haggis balls deep fried in beer batter, and the Camembert fondue.
Mains might feature the slow-cooked beef cheeks with a red wine glaze and garlic mousseline of mash, the Vietnamese chicken aromatic with sweet basil, lemongrass, steamed rice and lime leaves, and the confit duck slowly cooked in goose fat, bean cassoulet and lardons.
Or you could choose from the Les Grillades range of Mediterranean skewered, marinated meats cooked on the char grill and ideal for sharing, or alternatively, sample one of the tagines on offer.
Maison Bleue is in Edinburgh Old Town, a nine minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station and close to attractions such as the Museum on the Mound, the National Museum of Scotland and the Camera Obscura. Paid parking can be found at NCP Princes Street parking, around a ten minute walk away.
