    Excellent pizzas

A great deal pizza & drinks for 2 for £20, used 2 deals together then attended a comedy show after downstairs. Pizza's were so good & staff were very helpful.

Great atmosphere and beautiful Scottish produce.

I had a friend over from Poland who thoroughly enjoyed his first ever Steak pie as did I, melt in your mouth beef and flaky pastry, my other friend up from York thought his Haggis and mash was excellent. The table next to me had the fish and chips and by the look of it, I am definitely ordering that next time. The girl serving us Lucy was brilliant, could not have been nicer and Robert at the bar had great knowledge of the beer on offer which is pretty impressive. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

Real ale and music in Merchant City

Since 1995, Blackfriars has been giving Merchant City real ale fans plenty to smile about. With twelve beer taps – five real ales, many Scottish – alongside some 40 bottled beers from all over the world, there is plenty of choice. It is not hard to see why Blackfriars has won CAMRA’s Glasgow Pub Of The Year twice. The basement venue hosts regular club nights with DJs and bands playing the hippest music from the 1950’s onwards. If many of Blackfriars neighbours are style bars, this is more of an honest to goodness pub.

Good quality bar food

Top notch bar food from Britain and further beyond are the mainstay of the food offer. Steak and ale pie; beer battered haddock; mince & tatties plus the stew of the week represent the more traditional choices.

Dishes like the char grilled Cajun chicken; the cider-steamed mussels or the nachos bring a more contemporary flavour to the table. Naturally, there are burgers and steaks and lighter options such as the brie and bacon salad or lunchtime open sandwiches.

Merchant City attractions and transport

Blackfriars is on the corner of Albion and Bell Street in the Merchant City. Queen Street and Central trains stations are a ten minute walk. There is limited on-street parking as well as multiple pay car parks. The Old Fruitmarket, City Halls, Tron Theatre and Barrowland Ballroom are all within easy walking distance.
