Chaakoo Bombay Cafe West End - Excellent Food and Service

Lovely place and great service. The one in the West End is a little bit hard to find in Ruthven Lane and nearly gave up glad I found it eventually.

Classic Bombay dining in the West End

Chaakoo Bombay Cafe West End aims to take you back in time to the incredible flavours, smells and atmosphere of a classic Iranian-Indian cafe. The original Bombay cafes were opened by Persian immigrants who came to India in the 19th Century. They were unpretentious dining spots popular for serving a melting pot menu of Iranian grill dishes and Bombay dishes, washed down with classic Irani chai tea. Only 25 still exist in India today, but this new Glasgow addition aims to keep the whole vibe alive and authentic, while throwing in a few added extras. There is also a sister Chakoo restaurant in the city centre.

Tasty curries and Bombay fusion cuisine

The menu at Chaakoo Bombay Cafe is divided into classic curries, Chef’s Cafe Special Curries, Irani kebabs, Bombay small plates, roti, breads, sides and Indian salads.

Highlights include the house smoked chicken roti doused in tikka dry rub; the tandoori king prawn kebab flamed on a robata charcoal grill and finished in citrus lemon, and the railway chicken masala curry with North Indian spices. Bombay small plates include the lamb or veggie samosas; the fresh okra Punjabi masaladar and a choice of fish, chicken or cauliflower pakora.

From the chef’s specials you can sample delights like the Kerala monkfish curry or the ‘regal in taste’ rara gosh roasted lamb curry.

There is plenty for veggies to enjoy too, including a South Indian vegetable mappas curry; a paneer & vegetable roti and a cauliflower kebab marinated in yoghurt and classic Tandoor spices.

Close to Byres Road and the Grosvenor Cinema

Chakoo Bombay Cafe is on buzzing Ruthven Lane, right next to Hillhead Underground and Byres Road. The Grosvenor Cinema is very close by and you can find pay parking a stroll away at Lilybank Gardens.
