Amsterdam, tranquil and demure city of sleepy canals and pretty tulip sellers in clogs… Oh, who are we kidding? Everyone knows that Amsterdam is the metropolis of modern liberality, where everything goes and nobody raises an eyebrow. Just don’t block the cycle lanes.
Whatever floats your boat, Amsterdam has it in abundance. Bring an open mind and all your joie de vivre on today’s Big Deal three-night break to this dreamy Dutch destination.
Did someone mention boats? Oh yes, just to make this trip all the more memorable, you’ll be staying in a genuine Amsterdam Botel, cool and comfortable nautical accommodation on the river IJ.
The Big Deal, exclusive to 5pm customers, flies you to Amsterdam, city of pretty canalside townhouses, the Rijksmuseum, fabulous nightlife and coffee shops where the aromas aren’t always from the latest Ethiopian artisan roasts.
The Big Deal offers return flights with EasyJet from Edinburgh or Glasgow International with luggage allowance and three nights B&B accommodation, based on two sharing, in the Amstel Botel boat hotel.
The city breaks are for three nights, flying out on Fridays, Mondays and Thursdays from Edinburgh and Glasgow International. Departure dates available for this offer are:

The Amstel Botel is anchored in a central location on the river IJ, opposite the former shipyard that now serves as Amsterdam’s culture and arts centre. The adjacent free ferry service offers regular links to the Central station.
The hotel is a relaxed and comfortable accommodation option with its own bar and restaurant facilities. Spacious contemporary ensuite guestrooms are equipped with TV, direct dial telephone, in room safe, hairdryer and writing desk.
Visitors to Amsterdam are never going to be short of entertainment. From gazing at the Rembrandts in the Rijksmuseum to goggling at the sights in the Red Light District, there is a well-worn traditional tourist trail.
To get a sense of the city’s true character though, a wander along the canals and cool alternative shops in the Jordaan, or a stroll through the Vondelpark reveal the more reticent charms of Amsterdam.
The city’s markets are also a great option to shop for everything from antiques to hand-made clothing and jewellery. The Waterlooplein market in particular is a great option for unearthing bargains.
The Amstel Botel has plenty of positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Recent contributions include the following, edited for length:
‘Our view from the hotel was absolutely gorgeous and there is a wide selection for the buffet breakfast in the morning, from cooked breakfast to cereals and sandwiches.’
‘What a delight, quirky, fantastic base for Amsterdam. Amstel Botel was a delight, staff helpful & friendly. Room immaculate clean & functional.’
Everybody’s eyes tend to light up at the mention of Amsterdam. Whatever your partner’s idea of an entertaining break might be, they won’t be disappointed in the Dutch city.
This Big Deal break would make a perfect gift idea, or for a romantic getaway, especially with that cool Botel accommodation. And remember, what happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam…
