NIce food, but too much portion-control

We had a pre-theatre meal. Good price, with a free glass of wine for each of us. The food was good, the service was fine, and the atmosphere was lovely. Unfortunately, the portions were so small that we had to pad out the food with two rounds of bread (at £2.50 each). In particular, my husband's swordfish dish seemed to be taking nouvelle cuisine to extremes, skimping even on the vegetables. (My husband, still feeling hungry at the end, unusually, had a pudding.) We noticed other diners with much more substantial plates of food, presumably because they had chosen a la carte. We have been to City Merchant before, and would return, but not for a pre-theatre meal. The restaurant, sadly, is a little too careful about its pre-theatre portions.
