Shakespeare asked if music was the food of love.
Some sweet sounds certainly don’t hurt when you’re planning a romantic dinner.
However, we would add in gorgeous food, a spectacular setting and polished yet unobtrusive service.
All of which are house specialities at The Pompadour by Galvin, part of the five star Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian.
Be seduced by today’s Big Deal on a four course dinner for two with a glass of Champagne at The Pompadour by Galvin.
Best table in Edinburgh
The restaurant takes its name from the celebrated Madame de Pompadour, the favourite mistress of King Louis XV of France.
Madame de Pompadour was installed in the magnificent Palace at Versailles and the extravagant, listed interior décor of The Pompadour reflects the sumptuousness of the French royal court.
In fact, the restaurant has long enjoyed the reputation of having the best table in Edinburgh with impressive views overlooking Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle through the panoramic arched windows.
Three AA Rosettes
With three AA Rosettes to its name, The Pompadour is as famed for its cuisine as it is for its dining room.
The restaurant is led by brothers Jeff and Chris Galvin who have earned multiple Michelin stars and AA Rosettes. Acclaimed chef Fraser Allan is the Executive Chef charged with overseeing the brothers’ vision.
The kitchens combine the best of classical French-inspired cuisine with locally sourced Scottish ingredients to provide a unique fine dining experience.
Available Tuesday to Friday, from 6pm to 10pm, the offer is for two people to have a four course dinner plus a glass of Champagne each.
Exact dishes may vary depending on the fresh produce available.
Typical starters might be the roast chicken consommé, ham & chicken tortellini or the escabeche of yellow fin tuna with aubergine purée.
Popular main courses include Peterhead John-Dory, cauliflower purée and braised endive or slow cooked shoulder of lamb, split pea purée, truffle boulangére.
The Pompadour by Galvin has been winning friends and admirers since it opened in 2012. This is what a recent 5pm diner had to say:
‘If you want the a special experience with great quality food, setting and service, try The Pompadour. We’ve been to The Pompadour a few times in the last twelve months and on Saturday took my parents for a significant birthday celebration. Just one word needed – flawless. Thanks to Galvins again.’ Rating 4.4/5
And this is from a TripAdvisor review left at the start of February:
‘Another amazing visit to The Pompadour with friends. Their first visit and our umpteenth… Yet again everything was faultless. The food, wine, service, ambiance, the food… Can’t wait to introduce others to Edinburgh’s finest.’
