On a sunny day, the spacious Terrace at The Place is an awesome spot in which to drink in the views along with something chilled and refreshing.

The Terrace is part of The Place hotel on York Place. It is right by the tram stop and handy for Edinburgh Playhouse and the shops of both Mulberry Walk and the St James Centre.

Welcoming space

There are covered areas and outdoor heaters on the Terrace should the temperature dip below Edinburgh’s usually balmy norms.

And, of course, in the unlikely event of it ever raining during an Edinburgh summer, the lounge bar at The Place is an equally welcoming space in which to sip a Rum Flip or Marmalade Margarita.

Choice of cocktails

Available seven days from 2pm to 8pm, this offer is for two people to each have a cocktail along with a platter of nibbles to share.

Packed with Kalamata olives, smoked almonds, piquillo peppers, root veg crisps, roasted cashews and kettle chips, the sharing platter is the perfect accompaniment to a frosty cocktail.

The selection of mixed drinks on the terrace menu includes a Gin and Pear Rickey; Moscow Mule, Mint Julep and the might Strawberry Balalaika – Ketel One Citroen, Cointreau and lemon juice shaken with fresh strawberries.

Happy drinkers

The Terrace launched officially last summer. It is still a bit of a secret and it hasn’t had time to garner lots of TripAdvisor mentions. However, we did find this one:

‘We regularly book an area for after work drinks. The latest was outside in the newly opened roof terrace! The terrace is lovely, finished to a high standard with comfortable furniture and plenty of heaters.’

This scribbler has been up to the Terrace and it is a totally unexpected space with wonderful views over Edinburgh.

Once word gets out, we think it will become one of the capital’s hotspots.
