Craft beer and bar classics in Southside

This Southside cellar bar was once part of the Usher brewing and distilling dynasty. That heritage lives on at Andrew Usher & Co, a bar with an astonishing range of bottled, canned and draught beers from all over the UK and much further abroad. While craft beers are a focus here, the staff are equally as happy to whiz up a cocktail or recommend a bottle of wine to go with the bar food. Students, academic staff and audience members in for a bite before a show at the Festival Theatre can all be found here.

Modern bar menu

With a range of Scottish tapas such as black pudding and haggis bon bons or Glayva-glazed chicken wings, there are plenty of beer-friendly grazing options at Andrew Usher & Co. Alternatively select one of five appealing nachos toppings to go with your IPA. The fillers section is a cheery – and more hearty – list of fish and chips, pulled pork, Dublin scampi and a gourmet hot dog. Sharing platters of charcuterie, mezze and cheese are ideal to accompany after work drinks and there are several varieties of burgers or mac & cheese to choose from.

Southside transport and attractions

Andrew Usher & Co is a basement bar on West Nicolson Street, a two minute walk from Edinburgh University George Square campus. Several major bus routes run to and from the city centre via nearby Clerk Street. Waverley train station is a fifteen minute walk. There is limited on-street parking. Local attractions include Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the Queen’s Hall.
