    Great food and value

Food was excellent and deal with 5pm saved us a wee bit into the bargain. Location, was only 10 mins walk from Waverly and Xmas markets. Would highly recommend.

Nepalese and Indian in Old Town

Namaste Kathmandu is a long established Nepalese and Indian restaurant on Edinburgh’s Forrest Road. Simply decorated with scenes of Nepalese life and beautiful tapestries from the Himalayan region, it is handy for a quick lunch, pre-theatre bite or a family celebration.

Authentic Nepalese and classic Indian

From steamed mo mo dumplings to marinated lamb flavoured with Szechuan peppers, there are plenty of typical Nepalese dishes on the menu at Namaste Kathmandu. For something a little out of the ordinary, many diners try the sherpa’s checha – a chicken and cheese dish which is barbecued in the tandoor.

The tandoor oven also plays a starring role among the Indian dishes in choices like the tandoori chicken. There is a good selection of classic curries and less familiar dishes like the pudini chicken, flavoured with fresh mint along with the house spices and herbs.

Vegetarians have a wide choice and the kitchen takes special pride in its seafood dishes. There are plenty of prawn options but the house specialities include the crab banjara – a Keralan dish in which the crab is cooked in a sauce made with red chilli, coconut and mustard seeds.

Transport links and attractions

Namaste Kathmandu is on Forrest Road. Halfway between Greyfriar’s Bobby and Bristo Square, the restaurant is conveniently located for many Edinburgh University departments, the Festival Theatre and National Museum of Scotland. Numerous bus routes run down the adjacent George IV Bridge. Waverley is a fifteen minute walk. There is limited pay parking on Chambers Street.
