An excellent early evening meal. Not a great ambience but that was because it was a quiet time and the restaurant was empty. That did not spoil the meal and the service was excellent.

I went for the smoked cheese and jalapeño burger and rosemary fries and must say it was delicious. We were served promptly with a friendly smile and immediately relaxed after a long week in the laid back atmosphere of the place. We will definitely be back.

Opening on Partick Bridge Street at the end of 2015, MeatHook is a burger and BBQ bar. Retro-brand mirrors and vintage advertisements set the tone for the decor. If elements of the interior are deliberately old school, the menu of carefully smoked BBQ and gourmet burgers is bang on trend. At the weekends, look out for regular DJs – often with a Northern Soul slant. Cocktails and an extensive selection of other drinks keep the chat lively. The booths offer the opportunity for more private chats.
While there are tasty veggie burgers, bites, salads and dogs at MeatHook, it is the locally sourced beef, pork, chicken and seafood dishes which are most prominent. From flame-grilled burgers to sharing platters of meat cooked in the bar’s own smoker, they take their meat as seriously here as the name would suggest. The chefs even make all their own mustards, ketchup and relishes
From Memphis ribs to North Carolina pulled pork via Texas brisket, the
kitchen uses a variety of southern style BBQ rubs and spices. Other options such as the Reuben deli sarnie or the hot dog topped with mustard, onions and sauerkraut owe more to New York City. Moving on from the BBQ/street food options, there is a grill section of flat iron and rump steaks, pork chops and the intriguingly named sourpuss lemon chicken.
MeatHook is on Partick Bridge Street by the Kelvinhall end of Byres Road. The nearest subway is Kelvinhall and the nearest rail station is Partick. There is limited on-street parking. Local attractions include Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the University of Glasgow.
