‘If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!’
We suggest you save the number for the Ghostbusters team on speed dial if you’re heading to York, city of ghosts, ghouls and wailing spectres.
Known as ‘Europe’s most haunted city’, you might even bump into the odd headless lady or two.
Today’s Big Deal gives you the chance to learn more about the city’s spooky history with a York Ghost Bus Tour, plus a two night stay for two people in a comfortable hotel.
This Big Deal is available for stays until October, based on two people sharing a twin or double room. There are two options – a one or a two night stay.
Note two purchases will need to be made per room booking.
You will stay in one of two comfortable York hotels (don’t worry, they’re not known to be haunted):
Holiday Inn Express is a 3 star hotel in Huntington, about three miles from York Minster. Facilities include a restaurant, lounge bar and free parking. You will sleep in a sleek en-suite double or twin room with free wifi, a TV, tea & coffee making facilities and toiletries.
Queens Hotel is a unique 2 star residence on the banks of the River Ouse in the heart of York. It’s within walking distance of Coppergate Shopping Centre, York Castle Museum and many other of the city’s sights. All rooms are en-suite with free wifi, a TV, tea & coffee making facilities and toiletries. The hotel also has a restaurant, lounge bar and self parking.
Your Big Deal will include two tickets to the York Ghost Bus Tour, a thrill-packed nighttime ride through Europe’s most haunted city.
You’ll be taken on a ghoulish jaunt around York, through haunted and spooky places such as Skulldergate, Treasurer’s Hearse, Ghoulygate, the River Ooze and Gravesmire.
You will hear some chilling tales while also seeing the icons of York, such as Dick Turpin’s own grave, Clifford Tower and York Minster.
The after-dark tour lasts about an hour and a quarter, setting off from York Station.
York is an ancient walled city soaked in English history, so there’s much to explore in its winding streets.
Take a stroll and expect to stumble upon an atmospheric church, a quirky tearoom or a crooked house that looks as if it’s under a fairytale enchantment.
Highlights include the jaw-dropping York Minster cathedral, York Castle, Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum and the York Museum Gardens.
Happy ghost hunters

Thriller, thriller night
This Big Deal gives you the chance to take a short break to one of the UK’s most fascinating cities. You’ll get to learn a lot more about York’s ghoulish past in the process, including the chain-rattling ghosts that inhabit its streets.
