As generations of men are all too aware, defining romance can be a fraught business.
One man’s well intentioned ironing board cover may be his wife’s grounds for divorce.
Fortunately, today’s Big Deal clears up any confusion as to what romance might entail.
If you want to whisk away a loved one for a special treat then today’s Big Deal on a stay at the gorgeous Lake of Menteith Hotel will fit the bill.
Part of the Trossachs National Park but just an hour from Glasgow or Edinburgh, the Lake of Menteith Hotel was originally a 19th century manse.
Since being bought and revamped in the warm and welcoming style of a classic New England waterfront hotel, it has won numerous awards including Romantic Hotel of The Year and Country Hotel of the Year.
As the name suggests, the hotel sits by the side of the Lake of Menteith. The glorious views out over the water and to the islands and mountains beyond are broken only by diving osprey and migrating wildfowl.
Valid Sunday – Thursday, this great offer is for two people to enjoy an overnight break in a classic double or twin at the Lake of Menteith Hotel. A full Scottish breakfast each morning is included in the offer as are tea and scones in the afternoon.
All the rooms have been recently refurbished and come with Tunnocks treats, mineral water plus cafetiere coffee and tea in-room. Free access WiFi is available throughout the ground floor of the hotel and there is a guest access PC on request.
Finest Scottish produce
A full Scottish breakfast is included in the Big Deal. If you also opt to take lunch or dine in the hotel then you are in for a treat.
The Port Bar offers casual dining and a divine malt selection along with an open fire and large windows looking out onto the Lake.
In the Waterfront Restaurant, you’ll find the finest Scottish produce simply prepared to compliment the breathtaking views out the windows.
Popular dishes include main courses such as the slow cooked shoulder of Scottish lamb flavoured with cumin, garlic, thyme and red wine.
Alternatively, tackle the moules frites – a kilo of steamed West Coast mussels with garlic, shallots, white wine, cream and chunky chips.
This Big Deal member has eaten at the hotel and, as well as enjoying a stunning location, the place is gorgeous. But you don’t have to believe us. Check the TripAdvisor comments. We’ve cut these for length:
‘The location is stunning, the food and wine is extremely good quality and well priced. The service was also of the highest standard with the staff all perfectly adequately attentive but not overly so. The word cosy springs to mind, a small hotel that is well aged but very well kept on the shores of the Lake of Menteith. The hotel is ideal for a quiet break for a couple like us and we intend to return after seeing the wine evenings and other deals that the hotel offers. The whisky vault at the hotel is impressive and the huge open fire in the bar area is wonderful.’
‘Beautiful hotel, beautiful location. Stayed in this absolutely beautiful hotel for two nights and we could have easily stayed for weeks. The location of the hotel is stunning, looking right out onto the lake. The decor of the hotel is very traditional and right up my street. You can eat your meals in the bar area or overlooking the water in the restaurant. Though the view is compromised from the bar area I personally preferred it here due to the log fire! Toasty and perfect… Cannot recommend this hotel more.’
