Like all good Scottish castles, Culcreuch Castle is said to be haunted.

In particular, the ghost of a harpist is reputed to float around.

Scandinavian lodges

Culcreuch Estate Lodges is an exclusive development of eight, comfortable, Scandinavian-style, self-catering holiday homes in the Campsie Fells.

Located midway between Stirling and Loch Lomond, the lodges are set in a magnificent country estate and are surrounded by rugged fells, heathery moorlands, ancient woodlands, shimmering lochs and cascading burns.

The lodges are also quick and easy to reach from the Central Belt – perfect for a sunny break.

Country estate

Culcreuch Estate Lodges are beautifully sited in their own area, 200 yards from Culcreuch Castle and reached by a private access road.

The offer is for a three night midweek stay running Monday to Wednesday. Guests may be able to extend their stay by contacting the lodges directly.

The accommodation sleeps up to 4 or up to 6 people.

Verandah with views

All lodges are carpeted throughout, with central heating, telephone, colour TV and a spacious lounge opening out into the surrounding countryside through large patio doors and a verandah.

All linen is provided, with the exception of towels and tea towels. All beds are made up prior to arrival.

Dine in the dungeon

Described by The National Trust for Scotland as a ‘gem of outstanding beauty’, the castle is the ancestral home of the Clan Galbraith and it has a choice of dining venues.

The Castle Restaurant offers elegant, candlelit dining from an a la carte menu in the evenings.

For something less formal, enjoy the bar menu in the Dungeon Diner and Bar. The house burger; steak ‘n’ ale pie and beer battered haddock are popular within its vaults. If the weather is fine, guests can even eat outside.

‘Short family break. We stayed in the lodges on the estate. The view from the lodges was stunning and there was a lovely patio area to sit out. The lodge was ideal for us as we were travelling with two babies. Two travel cots were provided for us. The estate was very scenic and peaceful. We ate in the hotel itself and found the staff extremely friendly and helpful and they had a lot of time for the babies. The food was amazing. We would definitely stay there again.’
