‘Going on up to the spirit in the Skye’ sang Doctor & the Medics (at basically every 80s disco ever).
Obviously, the Skye they were referring was Scotland’s magical island of mist and mystery, and the spirit in question was Talisker whisky, which has its distillery there.
If you’d like to enjoy some spirit in the Skye for yourself (with or without ice), then grab today’s Big Deal for a stay for two at the Dunollie Hotel on Broadford Bay.
River deep, mountain Skye
With four options to choose from, today’s Big Deal from the Dunollie Hotel is very flexible and lets you create the romantic Skye escape that suits you best:
Option one is for a one night B&B stay with a glass of wine and late checkout. Option two is for a one night B&B with a glass of wine, three course dinner and late checkout.
Option three is for a two night B&B stay with a glass of wine, three course dinner on the first night and late checkout. Option four is for a three night B&B stay with a glass of wine, three course dinner on the first night and late checkout.
Whichever you choose, you and your favourite person will get to enjoy some hideaway time in the cosy Dunollie Hotel.
There you can enjoy the views of Broadford Bay and try to spot a golden eagle soaring over the Cuillin Hills to the Fairy Pools. And if you’re a fan of plus fours, the Isle of Skye Golf Club is handily close.
Get jolly at the Dunollie
The Dunollie offers a bay view restaurant, lounge bar, free WiFi and free parking. The Kyle of Lochalsh train station and Skye Bridge are both only a short journey away.
Each of the hotel’s 84 en-suite bedrooms includes a flat panel TV, tea and coffee making facilities, phone, desk and toiletries. Many rooms also have impressive views across Broadford Bay, including the lush green islands of Pabay and Scalpay.
The Dunollie has some fascinating history too. Legend has it that it’s on the site where Bonnie Prince Charlie gave the recipe for Drambuie to the Clan MacKinnon before escaping to France. We recommend sampling the liqueur for yourself in the hotel’s Redhills Lounge (all in the name of historical research, obviously).
Enjoy a meal with a view
The Torridon View Restaurant gives you the chance to sample traditional Scottish dishes in a scenic waterside setting. Some of the best local produce makes it way onto the menu, including shellfish caught fresh from nearby waters.
Menus can change but main courses might include seared salmon fillet with creamy mash and seasonal vegetables; haggis, neeps & tatties with a cream sauce, and pumpkin ravioli with creamed spinach. Grill items include Scottish rib-eye steaks, scallops and gammon.
Staff are happy to recommend wines from the carefully selected list.
If you would rather dine in a more casual setting, then you can relax in the Redhills Lounge with a light meal, or simply sample the fine local malts and ales.
Explore castles in the Skye
Known as the ‘island of the mist’, Skye attracts visitors from all over the world. The Dunollie Hotel is close to various scenic hikes and walks, including the Cuillin Hills.
It’s also a handy distance from the Skye Bridge, the Clan Donald Centre, and the castles of Dunvegan and Eilean Dolean.
Other unmissable attractions include Kilt Rock, Claigan Coral Beach, The Old Man of Storr and the jaw-dropping Quiraing landslip. Skye also has plenty of craft shops and once you’ve picked up some souvenirs, you could head to the Talisker distillery for a tasting tour.
Happy customers
Previous guests at the Dunollie Hotel have left positive reviews on TripAdvisor. This recent selection, edited for length, praises the friendly staff and good food in particular:
‘A nice break at the Dunollie Hotel. We had a lovely comfortable room and the view. Wow!! We were right on the water’s edge. Beautiful. Staff were very friendly and courteous. The food was excellent. We had a lovely short break.’
‘…The rooms are fine. Very clean and all the facilities you need…had dinner both nights and the food was good. Nothing pretentious…situated centrally in Broadford and a great place to start your tour of Skye. We would def go back.’
‘All of the hotel staff were very attentive and looked after us. Our room was clean and had tea/coffee supplied. Not a very big room but had all you required. The breakfast was a buffet with plenty of selection or an option to have other items from the menu cooked for you. The dinners in the evening were very good. Plenty of choice from the menu. Waiting staff very good. Comfortable lounge/bar area.’
Speed, bonny boat…
If you fancy a romantic Scottish escape for a night or more, then speed like a bird on the wind to Skye with today’s Big Deal from the Dunollie Hotel.
