Thought to be Scotland’s oldest hotel, Perth’s Salutation Hotel has played host to everybody from Bonnie Prince Charlie to David Bowie.
These days, you don’t need to be The Young Pretender or indeed a Thin White Duke to enjoy all that this historic hotel has to offer.
Today’s Big Deal offers a one or two night stay in this atmospheric Perth landmark.
Located in the centre of the city on South Street, The Sally is conveniently close to attractions such as Perth Museum and Art Gallery as well as being less than an hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The Salutation Hotel has been welcoming guests since 1699. While it wears its heritage with pride, it also features all the modern comforts that travellers expect.
Three course dinner
Both options include a glass of fizz on arrival plus a voucher for tea or coffee with shortbread for you to enjoy at any time during your stay.
Option one is for two people to stay in a superior double or twin room with a full Scottish breakfast in the morning and a three course carvery style table d’hôte dinner.
Option two is for a two consecutive night stay with a full Scottish breakfast each morning and a three course carvery style table d’hôte dinner on the first night.
Both options are available seven days a week and both options also include a voucher for a tour at the Tullibardine Distillery.
A late check-out to noon means that you won’t need to rush your breakfast.
Superior rooms are either recently refurbished or larger in size.
They all feature ensuite bathrooms with complimentary toiletries, free premium WiFi, flat screen TV with Freeview and hot drinks trays.
Both breakfast and dinner are taken in the splendid Adam Restaurant with its original barrel vaulted ceiling and magnificent, neo-classical Adam window.
Dinner is a three course table d’hôte menu featuring seasonal, Scottish ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons but typical dishes might feature Perthshire lamb, Shetland salmon and Highland venison.
Supplements will apply to some dishes.
See & do
There is plenty to keep you entertained. As well as great concerts and shows at Horsecross theatre and concert hall, Perth has a regular farmers’ market and there are more than 50 golf courses within easy driving distance.
Other attractions include stately homes such as Scone Palace and Perth Racecourse. Alternatively, you could swing by Tullibardine Distillery.
Of course, the surrounding Perthshire countryside is all there to be explored.
And, as mentioned, both options include a voucher for two people to take a tour of Tullibardine distillery at Blackford.
Over 1100 people have given The Sally a solid TripAdvisor score of 4/5. This is what a couple of recent guests had to say. We’ve edited for length:
‘Fantastic long weekend… We could not have had a better experience. We all felt so well looked after by all the friendly staff. Our rooms were nice, the beds were comfy and the food was wonderful… All in all it was a fabulous experience and we will definitely be back.’
