As the nineteenth rendition of that Slade festive ‘classic’ echoes around the crowded shopping mall, which of us has not pondered the timeless beauty and tranquillity of the Perthshire countryside?
Escaping the city has an increased appeal at this time of year, which is where today’s Big Deal makes a timely entrance, promising an idyllic break in the elegant and relaxed surroundings of the Moness House Hotel, Aberfeldy.
Within a couple of hours drive of Scotland’s major cities, the Moness Resort is easily accessible and yet, set in a 35-acre woodland estate, it offers a sense of remote, bucolic bliss.
Accommodation is in an atmospheric former hunting lodge dating from 1758, now offering all the comforts of a four star country house hotel.
Original features have been retained, while accommodating all the comforts of modern hospitality. Moness House Hotel & Resort is ideal for a relaxing getaway.

Spa day options
A visit to Moness is always relaxing. With today’s Big Deal, there are options to take your relaxation to another level by adding a spa experience to your stay.
For one and two people respectively, options five and six are for an hour long pamper package plus a two course lunch from the new Terrace Bar Spa menu.
The first 30 minutes are dedicated to a stress-busting Swedish back, neck and shoulder massage.
After your massage, you will enjoy one of the following:
Mini-facial– a gentle cleanse, tone and moisturising treatment will rebalance and boost the skin
Mini-reflexology– this ancient therapy uses the feet, hands or face as maps of the body’s organs. Working on reflex points, the body’s own self-healing powers are stimulated
Scalp massage– a traditional scalp massage, this is a lovely, gentle, soothing and relaxing treatment
File and polish for hands or feet– your nails will be carefully shaped and given a splash of colour. Hands or feet – the choice is yours
Depending on availability, guests can also upgrade to a full body massage, full body aromatic or full body hot stones massage an additional £10-£15 per hour.
Options five and six are for Monday to Thursday availability. For Friday, Saturday and Sunday visits, there is a £10 supplement for option five and a £15 supplement for option six.
Guests at the hotel enjoy full access to all of the resort’s leisure facilities. The changing rooms, steam room, sauna, individual treatment rooms and poolside showers have a chic, contemporary style. The heated swimming pool is an ideal place to relax after a brisk walk in the Perthshire countryside.
Sports facilities include badminton, mini-tennis, squash, table tennis and pool.
Additionally, luxurious spa treatments are available in the Spa Therapy Rooms. Big Deal customers can enjoy a 10% discount on normal spa treatment rates. Book directly with the hotel at the same time as reserving your room.
Perthshire is a rich source of local fresh meat, game and fish, and this is reflected in the menus of the Flemmyng Restaurant, where the accent is recognisably Scottish. The chefs use the finest produce and add a modern touch of culinary flair.
The menu changes seasonally and daily. Typical dishes include Scottish crab tortellini with saffron pasta, tempura battered claw, crab & chervil fishcake and lemongrass bisque as a starter, and Highland venison loin with dauphinoise potatoes, wild mushroom puree and a chocolate & juniper jus in the main course section.
The Terrace Bar offers a less formal, bistro-style ambiance, with a family-friendly atmosphere. There is an outdoor terrace if the weather is feeling benign.
Out and about in Perthshire
The Moness Resort grounds are perfect for a leisurely stroll, while those looking for more strenuous hikes are within easy reach of the Birks of Aberfeldy.
Hardy golfers can tackle the elements and the course challenges, with over 40 courses nearby. Ask the resort to help with tee times and bookings.
Moness Hotel and Resort has no shortage of admirers on TripAdvisor. Recent reviews include the following:

The Scottish scenery can be breathtaking in winter. It’s certainly going to have more than a few advantages over a dreich city skyline and the office car park.
A short getaway amidst the Perthshire scenery of the Moness House Hotel is a great way to recharge the batteries, and would make a thoughtful festive gift or romantic break.
