An early morning queue for the airport security check is never the best start to a short break.
Increasingly, we’re realising that a relaxing getaway doesn’t involve going far away.
Enjoy the tranquillity and the convenience of today’s Big Deal on a stay at The Popinjay Hotel & Spa in the heart of the Clyde Valley.
We could tell you that it is just off the M74, 25 minutes from Glasgow and under an hour from Edinburgh.
But we would rather describe it as nestled in the charming little country village of Rosebank and only a short stroll from the banks of the River Clyde.
Built in 1882, the hotel has a charming Tudor-style exterior. Recently under new ownership, it is enjoying a rolling refurbishment so that it can continue to welcome guests in style for the next hundred years.
Bottle of Prosecco in room
Available seven days a week, this Big Deal has two options.
Option one is for a one night stay for two in a double or twin room with a full Scottish breakfast, dinner, bottle of Prosecco in room on arrival plus a late check-out to noon.
Option two is for a two night stay for two in a double or twin room with a full Scottish breakfast, dinner on first night, bottle of Prosecco in room on arrival plus a late check-out to noon.
Dinner is a £20 per person allocation to spend on the restaurant menu.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and free guest car parking.
All guests are also welcome to use the hotel’s leisure facilities.
You could work out in the gym…
However, if you prefer something more relaxing, then the wet area, comprising a 17-metre heated indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna may be just the place for you.
Of course, if you really want to indulge, you could book in for a treatment with one of the hotel’s beauticians (not included).
The Dalserf Restaurant now offers all day dining from a new seasonal menu. Look forward to honest, wholesome and comforting food, prepared with care.
Popular main courses on the menu include braised pork belly; fillet of beef Stroganoff; chicken risotto and grilled halloumi served with salad leaves, strawberries and a lime and coriander dressing.
See and do
Lanarkshire is home to two world heritage sites, New Lanark and the Antonine Wall, plus many visitor attractions such as Chatelherault Country Park, Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life and the National Museum of Rural Life.
Another option would be to explore the Clyde Valley Tourist Route.
This 42 mile route makes its picturesque way to the upper reaches of the River Clyde and the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, a beautifully restored 18th century cotton mill village first built by the famous social reformer Robert Owen.
The Popinjay has lots of positive comments on TripAdvisor. The friendliness of the staff is a recurring theme. These are excerpts from recent reviews:
‘Our rooms were as described and very clean and comfortable. Food throughout our stay was delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful and we all really enjoyed staying here.’
‘Staff were brilliant. Food was good. Buffet breakfast was nice. Does need a little TLC but clean and tidy. Fab gardens. Plenty of parking.’
‘The spa has a lovely large pool, larger than your average spa hotel, with bubbling Jacuzzi & hot sauna. Everything you need to relax and get rid of the day’s stresses… excellent food and very friendly staff. Food may take a while to come, but it’s worth the wait…’
Christmas gift idea
Valid until the end of March 2018, this Big Deal would be perfect for a pre or post-Christmas getaway.
It would also make a great Christmas present for anyone who would like to explore the often overlooked Clyde Valley.
