A nice glass of port makes the perfect sweet and rich ending to any meal.
And of course, the Portuguese know this better than anyone, as port wine was invented in their city of Porto.
Now just imagine sipping a glass at a pavement restaurant in Porto’s Medieval riverside district at sunset… where better to enjoy it, in fact?
If this sounds like your bag, then why not experience it for yourself with today’s Big Deal on a three night stay in Porto with return flights from Edinburgh?

Contemporary four-star hotel
You will be spending three comfy nights in the Eurostars Heroismol, a chic and modern hotel not far from Porto’s central Aliados Avenue and the Douro riverside area. Heroismo Metro Station is a one-minute walk away and has airport links.
Your air-conditioned room will have a flat-screen TV, as well as WiFi and a minibar. The bathroom will include a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. Room service is also available.
Breakfast is available each morning and features a variety of fresh local products. In the evening, you can relax with a cocktail in the lounge or bar. The hotel also has an outdoor gym and cafeteria.
You will find plenty to do over your three days in Porto. The Ribeira (riverside) area is a labyrinth of cobbled streets and Medieval charms, while the city’s main bar area of the Galerias de Paris is a fun spot to head to in the evening.
Porto is also known for being a city of bridges, so you can enjoy a romantic moment on one with your travel companion.
Other visitor highlights include the baroque São Francisco Church, the ornate 19th century Bolsa Palace and the Museum of Contemporary art. But beyond galleries, Porto is also street art central, so be ready to take plenty of snapshots.
There are Portuguese-style tapas spots a plenty in the city, so you certainly won’t go hungry. Porto is also the home of the francesinha, a decadent open sandwich with smoked pork sausage, ham, roast meat and ham, cheese, fried egg and rich beer sauce (our jaws are dropping at the thought).
These recent TripAdvisor reviewers had plenty of nice things to say about Eurostar’s Heroismo Hotel in Porto. We have edited their comments for length:
‘Awesome! Staff professional and friendly… This was a really nice hotel that we could easily come back to when in Porto…’
‘Centrally located. Great hospitality and breakfast spread. Quick safe bet in case you are travelling to Porto for the first time…’
‘A nice, modern and arty hotel beside the Metro… about 1 mile east of Porto Cathedral and the main tourist areas… looks unassuming from the outside but as you go in the front door you are welcomed by a warm artistic decor… the bed was huge and very comfortable giving us a good night’s sleep. The breakfast had a large selection of Continental and English style food that would accommodate everyone and we found them to be very good. The restaurant provides evening meals and there is a bar open until midnight… we found the staff very helpful and very proficient in using English.’
