Riga highlights

The heart of Riga offers attractive and atmospheric medieval streets branching off the main avenue of Kalku Iela. Highlights include the old market, the imposing splendour of the cathedral and St Peter’s Church, and the beautifully restored medieval facades of the shops and cafes around Skarnu Iela.

Anyone with an interest in early 20th-century architecture will be amazed by the elegant apartment blocks of the city’s new town. Alberta Iela is a perfect example, with grand and decorative Art Nouveau and Jugendstil style buildings.

Riga is enjoying a cultural boom at present, with a preponderance of new galleries, bars, restaurants and clubs. The city has a vibrant nightlife and plenty of hip cafes where you can find out what’s happening culturally during your stay.
