Might be difficult to believe after that April snow flurry in Scotland, but reports from overseas suggest that the sun exists, and it is dipping its balmy rays over idyllic beaches as we speak.
Need evidence? No problem.
Today’s Big Deal saunters past the pool to a Balearic beat, offering a week’s getaway to the island of Majorca, a destination that has been providing much-needed sun to pale northern Europeans for a couple of millennia or so.
The relaxed atmosphere, outstanding scenery and gorgeous Mediterranean beaches of Majorca provide the perfect sun, sea and sand getaway.
The Big Deal, courtesy of the Travel Company Edinburgh, flies you to Majorca direct with Ryanair from Glasgow Prestwick, with hand luggage allowance and seven nights accommodation, based on two sharing a self-catering twin or double studio at the BelleVue Club in Alcúdia.
Departures are direct to Palma from Glasgow Prestwick airport. Available dates for departure are as follows:
16th, 30th, 31st May
3rd, 6th June
Flights are with Ryanair. Departure times vary depending on dates. Please confirm with the travel agent at time of booking.
The BelleVue Club is situated in the centre of Alcúdia, just 800 metres from the beach, and close to a variety of bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.
The self-catering double or twin studios are spacious and bright, with a furnished balcony offering guests beautiful views. Amenities include a fully equipped kitchenette for self-catering, satellite TV, and a private bathroom with a bathtub and shower.
The BelleVue complex has eight outdoor pools and two pools for children complete with a sun terrace area decked out with sunbeds and parasols. Guests can enjoy the children’s playground and go-karting, and indulge in a little friendly sporting competition on the tennis and squash courts.
There is nightly entertainment in the hotel garden, with a children’s mini disco and games followed by cabaret singers and magicians, along with karaoke.
As a break from self-catering, there are numerous dining options on site, with buffet restaurants and an a la carte restaurant offering international and traditional Balearic cuisine.
Facilities include a supermarket, gift shop and newspaper stand, ATM banking and currency exchange. There is also WiFi and an internet corner, room service, laundry service, medical assistance, bike hire and safe hire (with a local charge for services).
Alcúdia is an attractive town on the northern coast of Majorca, less hectic than the southern resorts. A little inland from the beach resort, Alcúdia’s medieval walls and historic old town have been well-preserved or restored, offering atmospheric strolls in the shady streets near the Gothic church of Sant Jaume.
The beaches are the main attraction though, with a choice of the popular Platja d’Alcúdia or, a little further away, the fine sand of Platja de Muro on the warm shallow waters of Alcúdia Bay.
The BelleVue Club has plenty of positive feedback on TripAdvisor, including these recent comments, edited for length:
‘Staff were always friendly, pool was always clean! Very suitable accommodation for what we were looking for.’
‘It was spot on, food was lovely, entertainment was really good, especially for kids, so much so that I will be returning.’
This Big Deal trip to Majorca is the perfect chance to put another Scottish winter behind you and soak up some Mediterranean rays.
With the beach close by and the attractive town of Alcúdia to explore, it’s a great way to combine a self-catering break with a few local restaurant visits.
