Explore Budapest

The great thing about Budapest is that it is compact, meaning that you can see the main highlights within a couple of hours.

Overlooking the Danube, the grand and gothic Hungarian Parliament Building is quite a sight, while the Széchenyi Thermal Bath (the biggest medicinal bath in Europe) offers a charmingly vintage spa experience.

Buda Castle and its labyrinth has intriguing ties to the original ‘Dracula’ (Vlad the Impaler), while the turreted fortress of the Fisherman’s Bastion offers incredible city views.

Budapest also has plenty to offer by way of café culture, with the baroque Ruszwurm coffee house in the Castle District being the oldest in the city.

By night, you can lose yourself in a thrillingly unique clubbing scene, with many venues based in old Soviet buildings that have been transformed into throbbing party zones.

Central 4-star hotel

City Inn is an ideal base for exploring Budapest as it is close to public transport links. Both the nearest metro stop (Corvin-negyed) and the capital’s busiest trams (4, 6) are only short walks away.

All rooms have an LCD TV, free internet access, a minibar, hairdryer and safe.

As well as a 24-hour lobby bar, the hotel has a wellness centre with Finnish and infra-red saunas.

Happy guests

City Inn has picked up plenty of positive feedback from guests on TripAdvisor, including the following, edited for length:

‘I stayed here for three nights and was very pleasantly surprised how nice the hotel was and how helpful the staff were… The room, although not over large, was comfortable, clean and absolutely fine for what I needed… Staff were very nice and helpful at all times. The hotel is not far from the bustling restaurants and a shopping mall. Breakfast was very good… Overall a pleasant stay which I will repeat on my next visit to Budapest.’

‘The breakfast was lovely, plenty of choices for fresh food and desserts. The WiFi was a bit slow but it’s fine if we just need to search for travel information or Facebook. The hotel is very well located, close to a big shopping mall and with easy access to the metro and other public transport.’

‘The location for shopping, transport, bars and restaurants is really good. The room we were allocated was clean when we arrived and cleaned whenever we left the instruction on the door to do so… The reception staff were very helpful and patient for the first couple of days before we got used to the, frankly brilliant, metro system. Breakfast was really good… All in all I really enjoyed staying here and the staff were a credit to the hotel. I would certainly stay here again.’

Romantic city break

As far as Valentine’s Day gifts go, a Budapest escape is hard to beat. Not only is it super-romantic, it’s also the perfect way to blow the winter cobwebs away and embrace 2019.

So why not spoil your other half with an unforgettable trip to one of Europe’s most fascinating cities?
