From The English Patient to Life is Beautiful, many a film has benefited from being shot in Tuscany.
Star in your own Tuscan blockbuster with today’s Big Deal on a three day getaway to Pisa.
Tuscany is a mini-break destination with a touch of class. Rich in heritage, cuisine and striking landmarks, it’s the perfect choice for a refreshing getaway in the spring and early summer.
Pisa is one of the region’s most attractive cities, with plenty more to offer the visitor than that iconic leaning tower.
The Big Deal offers return flights with Ryanair from Glasgow Prestwick with 10kg cabin luggage allowance, and three night’s room only accommodation at La Pace Hotel.
The offer is based on two people sharing a standard double or twin room. A popular buffet breakfast is available at the hotel, not included in offer.
The city breaks are for three nights, flying out on Sundays only from Glasgow Prestwick. Departure dates are as follows:
2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th April
7th, 14th, 21st May
11th, 18th June
Outbound flights depart at 08:40, arriving at 12:20. Inbound flights depart at 11:00, arriving at 12:45.
The three star La Pace Hotel is in Pisa’s centre, a 20 minute walk from the Leaning Tower.
Traditionally decorated, the rooms are ensuite with a bath or shower. Amenities include free WiFi, air-conditioning, a satellite HDTV with pay-per-view content and a work desk.
Guests can enjoy a range of refreshing drinks at the American-style hotel bar throughout the day.
The hotel is just a few minutes on foot from the main monuments and the historical centre of Pisa. Nearby bus stops offer connections around the city.
There are numerous dining options close to the hotel and staff can offer restaurant recommendations.
Pisa: the action
However familiar the Leaning Tower of Pisa may be from pictures or TV, there is no denying that it remains a remarkable sight. You’ll happily take all the usual tourist pictures, but it’s a monument that will make a lasting impression.
It’s not all that Pisa has to offer though.
Close to the Tower, the Campo dei Miracoli features outstanding monuments to rival any in Italy, elegantly arrayed around a green square. The Duomo, Baptistry and Camposanto cemetery are stunning examples of medieval architecture.
At the other end of the artistic spectrum, visitors are impressed by the modern Murale Tuttomundo, a richly-detailed mural on the bus station wall, created by acclaimed US artist Keith Haring.
Gourmets should steer clear of the obvious tourist restaurants and join the locals in excellent little establishments around Piazza Dante, where authentic Tuscan cuisine dominates the menus.
Happy guest reviews
La Pace Hotel has picked up plenty of praise on TripAdvisor. Recent contributions include the following which we have edited for length:
‘Excellent staff, Room was everything we needed! It was cosy, the bed was comfortable, there was coffee available and it was quiet… I highly recommend this place. The staff went above and beyond what was expected of them and I can’t wait to come back to Pisa and stay here again. Out of everywhere I’ve been in Italy this past month, this was my favourite.’
‘Great location. Spent one night in the hotel after flying into Pisa. Very helpful staff and the room was clean and comfortable. Very convenient to all local attractions. The breakfast at the hotel was a buffet and you get an amazing choice. Definitely would use again.’
