Lisbon has always been a fascinating city break destination.
More compact and inviting than many European capitals, it’s a city easy to explore on foot, with cosy squares, attractive street grids and the romantic allure of the fado clubs, with their distinctive Portuguese music.
If you haven’t had the pleasure, today’s Big Deal is the perfect opportunity, offering a three night break in Lisbon, with direct flights and central hotel accommodation.
A city built on seven hills, overlooking the Tejo river, Lisbon offers some fabulous architecture, elegant 18th-century squares and a wealth of culture reflecting Portugal’s history as a colonising power from medieval times.
It’s also the perfect place for some leisurely sightseeing, punctuated by visits to stylish restaurants and coffee-bars.
The Big Deal, exclusive to 5pm customers, flies you direct to Lisbon with Ryanair from Edinburgh International and includes hand luggage and room only accommodation based on two sharing a standard double room at the 3 star Hotel Miraparque.
The Lisbon breaks are for three nights, flying out from Edinburgh International on the following dates:
23rd, 30th November
7th, 14th December
11th, 18th January

Flights are direct. Outward flights depart from Edinburgh at 19:30, arriving in Lisbon at 22:40. Return flights depart from Lisbon at 15:55, arriving in Edinburgh at 19:05.

Stay in the heart of Lisbon
You will be staying in the centrally located 3* Hotel Miraparque.
Set in a historical building overlooking Eduardo VII Park, the hotel is within walking distance of Marquês de Pombal Square, Saldanha Square, El Corte Inglés shopping mall, Instituto Camões and Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. The Parque Metro Station is also close by, meaning that you can whizz around the city’s various attractions easily.
Each room is ensuite and classically decorated with a warm colour scheme. Features include soundproofed windows, air conditioning and free WiFi, as well as a flat-screen satellite TV, minibar and safety deposit box.
Please note that all rooms are non-smoking.
A seductive blend of historic and modern, Lisbon is a city divided into distinctive quarters, reflecting the influence of Moorish occupation and the 18th-century earthquake.
Imposing sites include the Moorish Castelo Sao Jorge looming over the atmospheric streets of the Alfama quarter, and the Torre de Belem, the striking Gothic tower on the waterfront.
Part of the city’s appeal is just strolling the atmospheric streets, particularly the steep winding passages of the Alfama, with its tea-houses and the intimate clubs showcasing the city’s fado music.
Alternatively take a scenic ride on the vintage wooden tram 28 that weaves through the pretty shopping streets of the Baixa and Chiado before struggling up the slope to the Alfama and Graça neighbourhoods.
A short train ride away, the elegant wooded mountain retreat of Sintra is a popular choice for excursions, a scenic and airy place once beloved of British poets like Byron, now a great place to enjoy one of those delicious custard pastries.
If the weather is kind, the Atlantic beaches offer a refreshing respite from the city and are well-connected by public transport from Lisbon.
Hotel Miraparque has received plenty of positive mentions from guests on TripAdvisor, including these recent reviews:
