Rather like a much-loved Yorkshire terrier, Jersey is known for being ‘small on size, but big on personality’.
The similarities between this charming Channel Island and small, adorable dogs end there though. Instead, you can expect scenic marinas, sandy beaches and rugged cliffside walks, as well as continental-style weather.
Does all this sound like an idyllic spring or summer break to you? Then take a look at today’s Big Deal from My Holidays Now for a three night stay with return flights from Glasgow.
Channel Island escape
Just a short plane journey away, Jersey offers a warm climate, dramatic scenery and a fascinating blend of French and British culture.
This offer is for a three night stay with return flights from Glasgow International airport. You will be staying in the Talana Hotel in the island’s capital of St. Helier. Prices are based on two people sharing a standard double or twin room.
You have a choice of the following flight dates:
9th, 16th, 23rd March;
2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 18th, 23rd, 30th May;
6th, 20th, 25th, 27th June;
8th, 9th, 15th, 18th, 23rd, 25th, 27th July;
Owned and run by the same family for over 50 years, the Talana Hotel is close to the centre of Saint Helier and the sandy Havre des Pas seafront. A range of restaurants, bars and cafes are just a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
The well-equipped rooms include a TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.
A varied breakfast and evening menu is served in the relaxed dining room and there is also a bar for an after-dinner drink. The hotel’s small swimming pool and sun patio mean that you can make the most of any fine weather that you get.
Jaunt around Jersey
As well as being handy for the beach, Talana Hotel is a five-minute walk from a golf course with tennis and squash courts, plus the famous Jersey Zoo is only a 10-minute drive away.
As Jersey is so compact, you can fit in plenty of sightseeing during your stay, whether that is a romantic coastal walk or a trip to St. Helier marina to see the yachts. If you fancy sampling some local vino, then head for a tour of La Mare Wine Estate (be sure to stop off at the gift shop for delicious handmade Jersey produce).
Historical spots include the dramatic Mont Orgueil Castle at Saint Martin with its coastal views and Elizabeth Castle at Saint Aubin, which can be reached via a causeway at low tide.
As Jersey is known for being an island of beautiful flowers, the Botanic Gardens at Samarès Manor are also well worth taking a stroll around.
TripAdvisor reviewers have been posting praise for the Talana Hotel. We have edited their comments for length:
‘Spent 2 weeks in the Talana with my brother…Breakfast was wonderful…Only 15 minutes walk into St Helier but with a car everything seemed to be 10-15 minutes. Staff all very welcoming and bar meals in the evening very substantial…Also absolutely spotless.’
‘A little dated but good, clean & comfortable accommodation. Friendly, helpful staff and management punching well above their weight with their excellent service. The breakfast offerings would not be out of place in an establishment several star ratings higher! Highly recommended!’
‘A friend and I fancied a cheaper break and neither of us had visited Jersey before. Keen to keep to a budget, we searched for a deal and landed upon the Talana, which was well situated for a lovely beach and decent stroll into town. The welcome was friendly and efficient and the staff were the same throughout our three night stay. Some of the decor could be described as ‘tired’ but it also unpretentious and comfy. If you want to be wowed by your surroundings then pick somewhere else; if you want value you money in a decent, clean and comfortable environment then the Talana is a good choice. The pool is small but very welcome after a long day of sightseeing with a beer from the bar. Breakfast was tasty and filling. All in all, I enjoyed it and would return.’
If you are craving a warm and sunny island break without having to travel too far, then Jersey would certainly fit the bill. Today’s Big Deal from My Holidays Now will give you a chance to explore this scenery-rich island from the base of a cosy, family-run hotel.
So why not book yourself a three night treat for this spring or summer?
