A three night escape to Kraków offers romance, culture and perhaps a chance to make a dent in the Christmas shopping list.
The city’s traditional Christmas markets launch at the end of November – perfect for a little retail therapy.

Kraków is a vibrant and romantic city, characterised by the well-preserved medieval architecture and charming streets of the Old Town, notably in the 13th-century townhouses, palaces and churches of the main square.
Highlights for visitors include St Mary’s Basilica, the Wawel Hill fortress complex and the eclectic and evocative district of Kazimierz, location for the movie Schindler’s List and now a lively bohemian quarter.
The stalls in the old Cloth Hall, the Sukiennice, along with the city’s street markets and craft stores, will be gearing up for Christmas and Kraków is the ideal place to shop for original and colourful gifts.
There is an option to add an Auschwitz Tour, from £34 per person.
The Christmas market in Kraków takes place every year on the city’s huge central square, Rynek Glowny, in the middle of the Old Town historic district.
Traditionally, it starts in the last week of November and lasts through to December 26th at least.
The wooden stalls sell a wide range of varied Christmas decorations, gifts, toys, sweets and other foods. The Polish speciality of hand-painted glass baubles are always popular as are other folk art items such as village pottery, embroidered tablecloths, and wooden sculptures.
Carol singers add to the festive atmosphere.
