Explore Wroclaw

Wroclaw, once known as Breslau, is such an attractive city that various powers have squabbled over its ownership over the centuries. That explains the mixed architecture, which includes Bohemian, Austrian and Prussian styles alongside the ornate traditional Polish edifices.

The hub of the city is the magnificent Market Square (Rynek) but the centre of Wroclaw is charming to explore on foot. The Odra river offers numerous pretty islands, scenic bridges and parks, with the Gothic splendour of Cathedral Island an obvious highlight.

Poland is not part of the eurozone so British visitors will find that the exchange rate is still very favourable, compared with destinations in Western Europe.

Spectacular Christmas market

If you’re travelling in late November and December, you’ll be able to visit Wroclaw’s Christmas market. It is a treat for the eyes as much as anything else, with a huge Christmas tree, ice rink, wooden stalls and sparkly lights. Lots and lots of sparkly lights.

The market runs from Wroclaw’s medieval square to the colourful Old Town area. You’ll be able to shop for gifts and stocking fillers like gingerbread hearts, Polish sweets, knitted goods, handmade soaps, local crafts, trinkets and speciality cheeses.

While you’re busy browsing, make sure to pause for a mug of mulled wine and take a look at the traditional nativity displays. Don’t forget to buy a cheeky present for yourself too.

The Christmas market runs from 17th November until 22nd December 2018 from 10am to 9pm daily.

Guest reviews

The Novotel Centrum is a fairly new addition to the Wroclaw hotel scene so hasn’t accumulated a long list of TripAdvisor reviews just yet, although recent comments have been positive:

‘Hotel is very modern and everything feels new. Reception staff speak very good English and were helpful every time we contacted them.’

‘Well designed and redecorated hotel, situated in the centre of Wroclaw, minutes walking to most attractions and business area of the city.’

Unique getaway

A Wroclaw city break offers an experience that is off the familiar beaten track of most European city destinations. It’s also a chance to discover one of Eastern Europe’s most distinctive and romantic cities.

Throw in the chance of seeing the Christmas markets too, and you’re on to a winner.
