The hotel offers a large buffet breakfast each morning and also has a 24-hour bar.
Berlin’s Christmas markets
The festive season kicks off in the German capital around the beginning of November. The hub of the city’s festive celebrations is Winter World on Potsdamer Platz.
Toboggan rides and a 500 square metre ice rink attract the crowds, and there is no shortage of refreshments. Stalls sell traditional German and Austrian Christmas snacks, like roast sugared almonds, toffee apples and gluhwein.
The Potsdamer Platz Christmas Market opens in the last week of November with stalls showcasing crafts, leather and textile products, offering hundreds of potential stocking-fillers.
Every neighbourhood in Berlin seems to have its own market and funfair as Berliners embrace the festive spirit.
The Christmas markets are scheduled to open from 25th November to 31st December, including 24th to 26th December. They are open every day from 11am ‘til 10pm (24th and 31st December ‘til 6pm).
If Christmas markets aren’t your thing, Berlin has plenty of other attractions to suit all tastes. Sir Norman Foster’s ultramodern Reichstag design and the Brandenburg Gate are obvious architectural highlights, although the old Eastern quarters of the city also exert a fascinating appeal.
Bowie fans may want to make a pilgrimage to the Hansa studios on Potsdamer Platz in Kreuzberg, location for the singer’s iconic Berlin recordings.
Nearby, the grungy S036 club retains its authentic 80s atmosphere and still stages live music.
The city has countless art venues and small galleries, with a cosmopolitan feel. In particular, the hipster neighbourhood of Neukölln is a great area to explore, with its cool bars, shops and clubs.
Best Western Hotel am Spittelmarkt has picked up positive TripAdvisor reviews, including these recent ones:
‘Good choice for Berlin. We had three nights in this hotel and appreciated all it had to offer. Staff were very helpful, and spoke very good English. Bicycles were available to rent – and the staff were happy to order a taxi (that came in two minutes). Good location – close to a U-Bahn station, the canal and river (which made for good walks), several sights and a number of good restaurants. Our room was clean, functional and very quiet. The breakfast was extra but good. We enjoyed our stay!’
‘Really high quality budget hotel. This is a fantastic hotel. Foyer is small but functional and they even designed a bar. There are 2 lifts which is great so you are not hanging around waiting ages. Rooms are amazing. Really clean. My room had a bath & shower. Staff were also very helpful. WiFi great too as worked here for a couple of hours. Nice quiet area with great restaurant opposite. I did not eat in the hotel. Really great hotel with fantastic value.’
‘Clean, modern and central located hotel. Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, clean and for its super location, very roomy. The breakfast buffet blew our mind. Compared to all Best Westerns we visited in the US, it was outstanding. We will come back to this location!’
