For a strapping Highlander, Newtonmore is perhaps best known as the village with the most feared shinty team in all Scotland.
Other visitors enjoy the less scary opportunities it affords for golf, fishing and making the most of its location in the Cairngorm National Park.
Find your own Newtonmore nirvana with today’s Big Deal on a relaxing stay at The Craigerne House hotel.
A family-run country house set in its own mature gardens, The Craigerne is an ideal base from which to explore all the attractions and activities that the Scottish Highlands and the Cairngorm National Park has to offer.
Combine the wonderful views of the Monadhliath, Feshie and Cairngorm mountains with the easy-going, informal atmosphere of The Craigerne and you have the perfect recipe for a memorable Highland break.
Seven days a week
Excluding the Christmas and Hogmanay periods, both options are available seven days a week until the end of February 2016.
Option one is for two people to stay two nights in a double or twin room and option two is for a three night stay.
Both options include a Continental breakfast in the morning with the option to upgrade to a full Scottish breakfast for a £5 supplement. Late check-out to noon is another benefit of this offer.
Dinner can be made available by prior arrangement. There is free WiFi in the house.
Cosy winter hideaway
With a choice of sitting areas, an open fire and a wood-burning stove, The Craigerne is a cosy hideaway for the winter months; especially if you choose to fortify yourself with a dram from the honesty bar.
If you have a clear night, there is even a garden fire where guests can warm themselves while gazing at the stars.
See & do
You don’t have to be a shinty warrior to enjoy the countryside around Newtonmore.
The house is beside Newtonmore golf course and it is less than a five minute walk to the local amenities of Newtonmore village. The village is home the Highland Folk Museum where some of the Outlander TV series was filmed.
The Craigerne is also in Monarch of the Glen country and you can get a good feel for the sites used in the BBC series from the surrounding area.
Newtonmore is an excellent base for exploring the many local walks and trails. These range from gentle riverside strolls to more serious hill walking on the Munros, some accessible on foot direct from Craigerne House.
Aviemore and the Cairngorms are only twelve miles away and Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, Fort William, Inverness and the towns of the Spey Valley Whisky Trail are within an hour’s drive.
Guests have left lots of happy reviews such as this on TripAdvisor:
‘Great weekend with friendly hosts. A return visit to the Craigerne. We were very well looked after and our room was very comfortable… showers were lovely and hot and powerful. Breakfast was good with local produce… Just what you needed to start the day before a round of golf. It’s a place to relax in between outdoor pursuits… very much enjoyed the local water sports at Loch Insh. There is so much to do in the surrounding area…’
With vouchers valid until the 20th December and then from the 13th of January to the end of February 2016, this Big Deal is very versatile.
From autumnal walking weekends to a winter sports break, it is all on the doorstep at The Craigerne.
Not that you need to be a Bear Grylls-style mountain man to enjoy the location.
A tranquil couple of days filled with gentle walks and quiet evenings spent gazing at the stars would make a very romantic getaway.
Of course, vouchers could be used to give yourself a treat or they would make thoughtful Christmas presents.
