Here at 5pm, we have a few requirements for the perfect Scottish Highland break.
First of all, we like to stay in a castle. A castle that was home to one of Scotland’s most formidable clans, preferably. We’d like the castle to be in the countryside, surrounded by the spectacular Highland scenery. And inside the castle we like roaring log fires, four poster beds and sumptuous tartan decor.
Today’s Big Deal for a stay at Kincraig Castle Hotel meets all those requirements – which makes it the ideal location for a Highland stay.
Highland Castle Hotel
Kincraig Castle Hotel is located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands just off the A9 near Tomich by Invergordon, 25 minutes from Inverness.
For centuries, Kincraig Castle was home to generations of the Clan MacKenzie who fought with Robert the Bruce.
Now the magnificent building is a cosy hotel which hosts guests looking for a romantic Highland break.

AA Rosette awarded restaurant
The AA Rosette awarded restaurant at Kincraig Castle Hotel serves dishes created using local produce from suppliers the hotel knows and trusts.
The menu changes regularly to reflect the seasons, but sample starters include Shetland hand dived scallops with braeburn apple, vanilla and cured ham and duck salad with beetroot, poached egg and crispy leg.
Guests can tuck into mains like Ardgay Estate venison with hickory potatoes, celeriac and roast carrot, and baked scrabster cod chorizo, braised white beans and crispy kale.
The mouthwatering range of desserts may include bitter chocolate fondant caramel, husk and white chocolate cream, or blood orange curd honeycomb, meringue and yoghurt sorbet.
Due to Kincraig Castle Hotel’s close proximity to the Dalmore Distillery in Alness and the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, they have a whisky snug which pays homage to Scotland’s National drink, with over 100 malts to choose from and knowledgeable staff to advise. The snug also serves wines, craft beers, spirits and cocktails.
Depending on the weather, guests can cosy up to the roaring fire or head out to the lawn to enjoy some food or drinks al fresco.

‘Right from the minute, we entered the hotel we felt at home. What a setting! It is luxurious, comfortable, welcoming and as well as all the trappings of a stately home it has all the little touches that make all the difference, like the flowers and the roaring log fires and the books and magazines. There is so much to interest and admire.’
‘The food was magnificent. We had venison for the main course- cooked to perfection. I had scallops for starter and they were just wonderful. The staff could not do enough and always had time to speak to you – especially Amy who had experience of the best hotels in the world – The Shangri La Group in Singapore Hong Kong and Bangkok and this experience translated to a Highland Hotel made our stay exceptional.’
‘I had the pleasure and privilege of a brief stopover at the Kincraig Castle Hotel and was truly impressed by this magnificent property . Styled in the original architecture of a 18th century Scottish castle, loving restoration of the interiors has preserved its original beauty and spirit, creating a majestic, yet cozy and intimate welcome… the grounds are expansive and lush, as the castle sits in the heart of Invergordon, gateway to many of the places of interest in this scenic region of Scotland… The staff are friendly and service is impeccable. Food is a delectable surprise here, and the meals served are thoughtful and exquisite, with an emphasis on local produce. I would highly recommend this venue when traveling in the North of Scotland and if celebrating a special event. It provides a historical, romantic and endearing setting which will make any occasion memorable.’
