Romantic spring escape

What makes for a perfect spring getaway?

We think a combination of a historic Highland castle, roaring fireplaces and, of course, a floating green ghost lady.

Today’s Big Deal from Tulloch Castle hotel in Dingwall offers all three (they’ve even named one of their bars after their mysterious ‘Green Lady’ spectre).

If all this sounds intriguing enough for you, then get ready for the romantic Highland adventure of your dreams…

Atmospheric escape

Tulloch Castle is a baronial-style hotel on a forested hillside north of Dingwall. The hotel’s roots go all the way back to the 12th century and it still has the historic features to show for it, including an oak-panelled Great Hall, fireplaces and ceilings.

Thankfully, the guest facilities are all thoroughly 21st century.

Today’s Big Deal for a stay for two gives you the chance to sweep around a Highland property like medieval Scottish nobility. As well as all this high drama and romance, you will also get breakfast, a three course table d’hôte dinner and a lovely bottle of wine (just remember to leave a glass out for the Green Lady at midnight…)

This deal is available seven days with a Saturday supplement. You can choose between a one or two night stay, depending on what suits. If you choose the second option, dinner will be included on the first night only.

You will also have the bonus of a late checkout to noon, should you feel like a lazy morning.

Charming rooms

Tulloch Castle has twenty en-suite bedrooms, all decorated in a traditional Highland style, and all with their own unique character and charm.

Some have four-poster beds, perfect for an amorous stay, while others are set up for families. You can upgrade to either of these room types for a supplement. Please arrange with the hotel at the time of booking.

All rooms feature direct dial telephones, tea and coffee making facilities, and a laundry service.

Seasonal Scottish cuisine

Only the best, freshly prepared Highland produce is served in the atmospheric Turrets Restaurant. Menus vary according to seasonal availability but expect local beef, venison, haggis and salmon.

Recent highlights have been the starters of duck pate or haggis bonbons, the mains of slow braised feather blade of beef with ox cheek or baked salmon fillet with crushed baby potatoes, and dessert choices that included crème brulee and cheesecake.

You can round off your evening relaxing in front of a warm log fire in the Green Lady Bar while enjoying a fine malt from the vast selection. If you’re lucky, someone might tell you one of the hotel’s many stories.

See & do

Tulloch Castle has a number of nearby attractions, including the town of Dingwall, just a five-minute drive away. You can also take your pick of castles to visit, with Castle Leod, Kilcoy Castle and the remains of Dingwall Castle all close by.

Scotland’s oldest whisky distillery, Glen Ord, is a twenty minute drive away and is open for visitors. The River Peffery isn’t far either, should you fancy a waterside stroll.

Happy guests

Previous guests at Tulloch Castle have left the following enthusiastic reviews on TripAdvisor, which we’ve edited for length. In particular, they praise the food, the refurbished rooms and the helpful staff:

‘Had a great weekend at Tulloch Castle in Dingwall. Could not fault it. From the Room (No 15 with four poster bed) to the staff and the food. The Bar menu was great for a bite to eat on the Friday night and then a visit to the Turret restaurant on the Saturday topped it off with the best venison I have ever tasted…great place, no hassles and after dinner coffee and chocolate by the open fire topped it all off.’

‘My wife and I had a lovely stay in this quirky Scottish castle with resident ghost. The rooms have been recently upgraded, we could not fault the décor and our room overlooked the town of Dingwall. We felt at home in the lounge with the roaring fire warming us as we supped our drinks before dinner. Both dinner and breakfast were the best we have had in a hotel for many years. Well done Chef! The Hotel Manager, Caroline, was exceptional in her duties, ensuring our visit was a memorable one. We will certainly be back when the time allows.’

’...we thoroughly enjoyed our stay last night. We were at the top floor of Tulloch Castle and found the room to be of a good standard and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was of a very good standard and the staff were all friendly. Loved the warm intimate bar and restaurant areas and would definitely stay here again…’
