A fascinating day out for all the family, the National Museum of Flight has as much to interest hardcore propeller heads as casual visitors.
Set coordinates to East Fortune, only 30 minutes from Edinburgh for today’s Big Deal at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian.
Whether you want a visit to a Jaguar Bomber; get to grips with over 25 activities including flying an airship or simply to say that you have been on Concorde, the National Museum of Flight offers a first class ticket to the aviation experience of your dreams.
The National Museum of Flight gets a big thumbs up from lots of its visitors. This is what Caspdex had to say on Tripadvisor in April of this year:
‘I cannot recommend this highly enough. It is a bit off the beaten track but is clearly signposted and easy to find. It covers both civil aviation and commercial aviation, the highlight being Concorde. There are some great interactive exhibits for all the family and my five yr old daughter just loved it.’
Now the home to Scotland’s only Concorde, among dozens of other aircraft, including a Spitfire, Vulcan, Comet and Tornado, East Fortune Airfield started life during the First World War.
Over the years, it has seen airships, Mosquitoes, Lancaster bombers and Spitfires circle the air above the station. These days, the site plays host to several displays which chart the history of modern flight.
As well as aircraft used during the wars, there are displays from the Jet Set age, with the UK’s only Boeing 707 cockpit and cabin, from a time when flying was truly glamorous; recreations of parachute packing stores; flight simulators and, should you feel the need for a little lift, the Aviator Cafe has plenty of goodies that will give you wings.
If you want to shout ‘Chocks away!’ and enjoy an aerodynamic day out then today’s Big Deal is:
Two tickets for the price of one to the National Museum of Flight; two tickets for £9.50.
