Comedian Henny Youngman used to joke, ‘Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays.’
We don’t recommend you follow Mr Youngman’s advice. Instead, we reckon that you should treat your spouse, sweetheart, buddy with benefits to a great three course meal at Macdonald Crutherland House in East Kilbride.
Set in rolling parklands, the hotel’s restaurant has two AA rosettes and they don’t give them away easily. The restaurant serves only the finest Scottish beef, lamb and wild white fish, much of it organic. Tastefully lit and decorated with a collection of paintings from the old manor, the Restaurant offers guests a refined setting in which to try the latest innovations in Scottish cooking. Sink into one of the high-backed leather chairs and enjoy fresh, seasonal ingredients cooked to perfection.
The menu changes seasonally but typical choices might include a twice baked Drumlock cheddar soufflé; roast North Sea cod wrapped in pancetta, served wilted greens and sauté Jerusalem artichokes or the free range, corn-fed chicken breast which comes with potato stovies and a Macallan jus.
Actually, this deal is too good to restrict to your nearest and dearest. As you may recall from the top of the screen, Macdonald Crutherland House hotel in East Kilbride is offering a three course meal for two plus a glass of bubbly on arrival for £35; a 54% saving on the standard £75.80.
At that price, you can invite friends, neighbours, even work colleagues. Cripes. At that price, Mr Youngman might even have been tempted to take his wife.
